President Ilham Aliyev met with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on February 4 to discuss the ongoing normalization process between the two nations.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the leaders welcomed the progress made toward implementing the outcomes of the Washington Peace Summit, which was hosted and witnessed by US President Donald Trump. The sides emphasized the importance of maintaining positive dynamics in the bilateral normalization process and ensuring that the momentum gained in recent negotiations is preserved.
During the meeting, both parties noted that their respective societies are beginning to see the tangible benefits of peace. They expressed satisfaction with the commencement of bilateral trade, including the export of petroleum products from Azerbaijan to Armenia and the transit of grain and other goods from third countries to Armenia through Azerbaijani territory. The leaders agreed to continue exploring opportunities for expanded economic cooperation and welcomed mutual visits by civil society representatives as a means of building trust.
Discussions also covered the implementation of the TRIPP and other regional connectivity projects aimed at integrating transport networks in the South Caucasus. President Ilham Aliyev and the Armenian Prime Minister reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening peace and stability and agreed to maintain regular contacts to support the bilateral normalization agenda.
This high-level meeting in Abu Dhabi serves as a continuation of the diplomatic efforts to finalize a comprehensive peace agreement. Following the restoration of Azerbaijan's sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Garabagh region, the focus has shifted toward border delimitation and the opening of regional transport corridors, which are seen as essential components for long-term stability in the region.
