Trade volume between Türkiye and the United States has reached $38 billion as economic ties gain momentum, Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat said, according to the Anadolu Agency.

Speaking to business leaders at the fourth Turkish-American Business Gathering in New York, Bolat said stronger economic performance, higher exports and an improved balance of payments would reinforce Türkiye’s economy.

Bolat, who accompanied President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to New York for the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, said the United States is Türkiye’s second-largest export market and fourth-largest source of imports. He added that the US is Türkiye’s second-largest foreign direct investor, while around 1 million American tourists visit Türkiye each year.

Business leaders target $100 billion in trade

Orhan Aydin, president of the Anatolian Lions Businessmen Association, known by its Turkish acronym ASKON, said the strategic goal was to raise bilateral trade to $100 billion.

He said achieving that target would mean more Turkish companies entering the US market, increased American investment in Türkiye, expanded joint production, technology transfers, job creation and a stronger economic partnership.

Aydin identified energy, defense, aviation, software, artificial intelligence and agriculture among the sectors with potential for joint investment.

Investment opportunities discussed in New York

Bolat also attended the 19th Türkiye Investment Conference, organized by the Foreign Economic Relations Board, its Türkiye-US Business Council and Citi, to meet global institutional investors.

He said discussions focused on the resilience of the Turkish economy, investment opportunities and Türkiye’s strategic advantages for international investors.

According to Bolat, bilateral goods trade stood at $38.6 billion in 2025. He said both governments aim to expand trade through mutual investment, co-production and innovation.

He highlighted cooperation opportunities in renewable energy, the digital economy, artificial intelligence, defense and aerospace, automotive, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and medical devices.

Bolat highlights diaspora’s economic role

At the Global Turks New York Forum, organized by the Global Turks Foundation, Bolat said the Turkish diaspora was playing an important role in expanding Türkiye’s commercial ties worldwide.

He said Turkish communities in the United States and other countries had made significant progress in developing diaspora initiatives, while civic platforms were helping promote Türkiye internationally.

Bolat added that citizens living abroad serve as cultural and commercial bridges between their host countries and Ankara.
