Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has announced the decision to dissolve the House of Representatives, the lower house of the country's parliament, on January 23.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the head of government shared this information during a press conference held in Tokyo. Takaichi stated that the primary objective of this move is to seek a direct mandate from the public. She emphasized that Japanese citizens should ultimately decide whether she continues to lead the government, noting that her leadership was not the central focus during the 2024 elections. "Takaichi intends to clarify whether the people entrust her with the country's administration," the Prime Minister added, highlighting the need for renewed political legitimacy.

The dissolution of the lower house in Japan typically paves the way for snap general elections, which must be held within 40 days of the announcement. This strategic move is often employed by Japanese leaders to consolidate power or seek public approval for specific policy shifts. For Azerbaijan, Japan remains a key partner in East Asia, with both nations maintaining strong diplomatic and economic ties, particularly in the energy and technology sectors. The political stability of Japan is of significant interest to international partners, including the Republic of Azerbaijan, as both countries continue to expand bilateral cooperation and mutual investment within various international frameworks.
