Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev has chaired the 67th meeting of the Commission on Efficient Use of Water Resources to discuss the regulation of the operating regimes of Azerbaijan's main reservoirs during the current high-water period. The meeting focused on the rising water levels in the Kura River and its tributaries following recent intensive rainfall, as well as the implementation of preventive measures to mitigate potential flooding risks.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing the Cabinet of Ministers, that the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency provided detailed information on the increased water volume in the Turyanchay, Goychay, Girdimanchay, and Gargarçay rivers. Officials noted that while the current rise is linked to hydrometeorological conditions and remains local in nature, local operational departments are working in a reinforced mode to ensure the safe and unobstructed discharge of excess water into the Caspian Sea.

The Commission on Efficient Use of Water Resources was established following a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev on April 15, 2020, to ensure the coordinated management of the country's water supply for drinking, irrigation, and energy purposes. Key focus areas include the Shamkir-Yenikend-Mingachevir-Varvara cascade on the Kura River and the Araz-Khudafarin-Giz Galasi systems. According to forecasts from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, water resources in Azerbaijan are expected to be significantly higher this year compared to previous years, necessitating strict control over reservoir levels and protective embankment infrastructure.
