The Main State Traffic Police Department has issued an urgent advisory to drivers regarding the importance of maintaining a safe following distance between vehicles.
According to information provided by the department to the Operative Information Center-OMM, recent analyses indicate that the failure to maintain a safe distance is a primary factor contributing to traffic accidents in Azerbaijan.
The department emphasized that such violations lead to severe consequences, particularly on highways at high speeds and in congested urban traffic. Insufficient following distance significantly reduces a driver's reaction time when the vehicle ahead brakes suddenly, changes direction unexpectedly, or encounters an obstacle.
The advisory stresses that drivers must maintain a distance that allows them to properly assess the situation, react in time, and bring their vehicle to a safe stop in the event of sudden braking or other hazardous road conditions. This initiative is part of broader efforts by the Ministry of Internal Affairs to enhance road safety and reduce traffic-related fatalities across the country.
