A significant drug trafficking operation in Azerbaijan's Imishli district has resulted in the seizure of 15 kilograms of narcotics, officials confirmed.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs told Operative Information Center-OMM that Elvin Mustafayev and his acquaintance, identified as N. Isakhanova, were detained on suspicion of organizing illegal drug circulation. During the inspection, police officers discovered and confiscated 15 kilograms of opium and marijuana from the suspects.
Under interrogation, the detainees confessed to being recruited as drug couriers via social media by an Iranian citizen, whose identity is currently being investigated by law enforcement. A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident, and a preventive measure of arrest has been ordered for both individuals by the court.
This operation is part of Azerbaijan's ongoing nationwide crackdown on illegal drug trafficking and cross-border smuggling. The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Security Service continue to intensify efforts to secure the country's borders and dismantle networks involved in the distribution of controlled substances, particularly those originating from international trafficking routes.
