A truck driver suspected of smuggling more than 11 kilograms of narcotics from Iran into Azerbaijan has been arrested, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

The Operative Information Center-OMM reported that the arrest was carried out by officers from the Absheron District Police Department. The suspect, 47-year-old Emin Ahmadov, who is engaged in international freight transport, was apprehended during a specialized police operation. A search of his heavy-duty truck revealed 8 kilograms of heroin and over 3 kilograms of the psychotropic substance methamphetamine.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Ahmadov obtained the narcotics from an Iranian citizen currently under investigation and smuggled them into the country. Authorities are continuing operations to identify and apprehend other members of the drug trafficking network involved in this criminal scheme.

Azerbaijan frequently conducts anti-drug operations to combat the smuggling of illicit substances across its borders. These efforts are part of a broader national strategy to strengthen border security and curb the flow of illegal narcotics into the country, which often involves international cooperation and rigorous vehicle inspections at customs checkpoints.
