The United States Navy is prioritizing the integration of artificial intelligence technologies to enhance security and mine-detection capabilities in the Strait of Hormuz.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing Reuters, that the U.S. is expanding its use of AI to detect maritime mines, aiming to significantly accelerate clearing operations in the region.
According to the report, a contract worth up to $100 million has been signed with Domino Data Lab. Within the framework of this agreement, underwater drones will be able to identify new types of mines in a matter of days rather than months. The company's leadership noted that this approach demonstrates a shift from traditional mine-hunting methods to AI-driven systems to ensure safety in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's primary global shipping routes.
The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor through which a significant portion of the world's oil supply is transported. Maintaining the security of this passage is crucial for global energy stability and international trade. Under the leadership of US President Donald Trump, the United States continues to focus on modernizing its military capabilities to counter regional threats and ensure the unhindered flow of commerce through international waters.
