With the arrival of the weekend, a significant increase in traffic flow is expected on highways across Azerbaijan, particularly on routes connecting the capital, Baku, to the regions and popular tourist destinations.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Main State Traffic Police Department has issued an official advisory regarding the anticipated surge in road activity.
Authorities emphasized that the rise in traffic intensity correlates with an increased risk of road traffic accidents. Consequently, the department has called upon drivers to exercise heightened vigilance.
Drivers are urged to adjust their speed according to road and weather conditions, avoid operating vehicles while fatigued or unwell, maintain safe following distances, and refrain from risky overtaking maneuvers. Furthermore, motorists are advised to strictly adhere to traffic regulations and ensure their vehicles are in proper technical condition before embarking on long trips.
"Pedestrians are also requested to cross roads only at designated crossings and to avoid using mobile phones or other distractions while doing so. It is especially important to remain cautious during nighttime hours and to ensure visibility to drivers to maintain personal safety," the statement noted.
The Main State Traffic Police Department regularly issues such advisories during weekends and public holidays, as these periods historically see a spike in travel between Baku and the regions, necessitating proactive measures to ensure public safety and minimize traffic congestion on major arterial roads.
