UK ministers are preparing to brief business leaders from sectors considered vital to national security on threats attributed to Russia, Sky News reported on Friday.
Security Minister Dan Jarvis will lead a meeting with representatives of companies designated as critical national infrastructure, including firms in communications, civil nuclear power, energy and water, the broadcaster said.
Briefings to focus on essential services
Armed Forces Minister Louise Sandher-Jones will separately meet representatives of the defence industry for a briefing focused on Russia-related threats.
The meetings are expected to take place in the coming weeks and will address what the UK government describes as Russian cyberattacks, sabotage and disinformation intended to disrupt essential services and undermine confidence in institutions.
“Russia is actively seeking to disrupt the organisations that form the bedrock of our national security,” Sandher-Jones said.
Jarvis said the government would “share world-class intelligence with some of the most important organisations in the country, to ensure they understand and are prepared for the threats we face.”
The planned briefings follow similar government meetings with university leaders and political parties earlier this year on foreign interference.
