Turkey's Ministry of National Defense has issued an official statement emphasizing that the presence of American personnel at Incirlik does not mean the facility is a U.S. base.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the ministry clarified the strategic facility's status in a formal announcement to address ongoing public discussions.
"Incirlik is a Turkish base. Our 10th Main Jet Base Command, which operates under our War Air Force Command in Eskisehir, is located in Adana Incirlik," the statement read. The ministry further detailed that the 10th Main Jet Base Command hosts F-16 squadrons, tanker aircraft, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). All facilities on the site are the property of the Republic of Turkey, and the base commander is a Turkish Brigadier General.
"The presence of American soldiers there does not mean it is a U.S. base. Military personnel from Spain, Poland, and Qatar are also stationed there," the ministry noted, highlighting the multilateral nature of the site's operations under Turkish sovereignty.
Incirlik Air Base has long been a focal point of regional security and NATO operations. Established in the 1950s during the Cold War, the base serves as a critical hub for logistics and air operations in the Middle East. While it hosts various allied forces under international agreements, the facility remains under the full jurisdiction of the Turkish Armed Forces, serving as a vital asset for both national defense and collective security efforts within the NATO framework.
