Important diplomatic consultations have been held in Istanbul between Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and a high-level delegation from the Palestinian Hamas movement. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the primary objective of the meeting was to consolidate the fragile ceasefire achieved in Gaza and to accelerate the delivery of vital humanitarian aid to the region.
During the discussions, particular focus was placed on the implementation of the second phase of the peace agreement. This stage is considered a decisive moment for both the political and physical reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. According to diplomatic sources, Hakan Fidan informed the Hamas leadership about the intensive diplomatic activities conducted by official Ankara across various international platforms.
One of the most significant topics of the meeting was the operational mechanism of a new international body called the "Board of Peace". It should be noted that this council was established on January 15 by US President Donald Trump and gained international legitimacy through UN Security Council Resolution 2803, adopted in November 2025. Turkey emphasizes that this mechanism is a crucial tool for protecting the fundamental rights of the people of Gaza.
The Turkish side stated the importance of the "Board of Peace" acting not only as a security monitor but also as a mediator for Palestinian self-determination. Hakan Fidan noted that constructive dialogue is essential to ensure that Palestinian perspectives remain on the international agenda. Turkey has long positioned itself as a key regional mediator in the Middle East conflict, consistently advocating for a two-state solution and the protection of civilian infrastructure in Gaza.
