The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued an official statement regarding the recently announced ceasefire and full integration agreement in Syria.
Operative Information Center-OMM, citing TRT Haber, reports that the ministry expressed hope that the agreement announced by Syrian President Ahmed Shara will accelerate efforts toward restoring stability and security in the country.
The statement emphasizes that Syria's future lies in unity and integration rather than terrorism and fragmentation. The Turkish side expressed its desire for the agreement to serve the peace of the Syrian people and the entire region, particularly neighboring states.
The document further noted that it is imperative for the agreement to be implemented based on Syria's unity and territorial integrity. There should be no place for terrorist groups or separatist tendencies in Syria's future. Turkey will continue to support the Syrian government's efforts toward inclusive governance based on the will of the people and the reconstruction of the country.
Turkey's stance aligns with its long-standing foreign policy regarding its southern neighbor, which focuses on preventing the establishment of terror corridors and ensuring a political resolution to the decade-long conflict. As a key stakeholder in the Astana process and a major host of Syrian refugees, Ankara views the stability of Damascus as vital to its own national security and the broader geopolitical equilibrium of the Middle East.
It should be recalled that a new era began in Syria starting December 8, 2024. Turkey considers this stage an important opportunity for the country's prosperity and notes that the process is passing through a critical phase.
