Spain has officially announced that it will not participate in any military operations in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares stated in an interview with RNE radio that the Strait of Hormuz must remain a free, safe, and unobstructed transit zone for vessels from all nations. The minister noted that Spain has no intention of joining military actions in the region and advocates for ensuring the security of maritime transport through diplomatic channels.
Albarez also reiterated his support for the suspension of the Association Agreement between Israel and the European Union. He emphasized that the EU should only maintain cooperation with countries that respect democratic principles and fundamental human rights.
The Strait of Hormuz is a vital global maritime route, serving as a primary corridor for oil exports from the Middle East. Spain's decision to prioritize diplomacy over military involvement comes amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing discussions within the European Union regarding the humanitarian situation in the Middle East and the legal frameworks governing international trade agreements.
