Rat poison has been discovered in baby food products manufactured by a Germany-based company and sold across supermarkets in Austria, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing international media outlets, that law enforcement agencies have launched an urgent investigation following the detection of toxic substances in the food jars, prompting immediate public safety warnings.

Austrian authorities were alerted by German investigators regarding the potential circulation of contaminated products within the country. Police in the Czech Republic and Slovakia have already seized several batches of the affected items, with laboratory analyses confirming the presence of rodenticide. In response, the involved supermarket chains have initiated a comprehensive recall of all baby food jars from the specific manufacturer as a precautionary measure. The production company has issued a statement suggesting that the contamination likely resulted from external tampering after the production process rather than a manufacturing defect.

Food safety standards in the European Union are among the strictest globally, governed by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF). Incidents involving intentional tampering or "food terrorism" are rare but trigger high-level cross-border cooperation between police and health regulators to prevent public harm. In Azerbaijan, the Food Safety Agency maintains rigorous oversight of imported food products, including baby food, to ensure compliance with national health protocols and frequently monitors international alerts to prevent the entry of contaminated goods into the domestic market.
