National Hydrometeorological Service issues weather warning for Baku and regions

The National Hydrometeorological Service has released the official weather forecast for Azerbaijan for tomorrow, January 20, predicting cold conditions and precipitation across the country.

According to information provided by the service to the Operative Information Center-OMM, cold weather is expected in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, with intermittent precipitation. In some areas, the rainfall is expected to intensify, taking the form of sleet and, in higher elevations, snow. A moderate northern wind will prevail, with occasional strengthening throughout the day.

The air temperature in the capital and the peninsula will range between 0–3°C during both day and night. Atmospheric pressure will remain above the norm at approximately 766 mm Hg, with relative humidity fluctuating between 75–85 percent.

In the regions of Azerbaijan, weather conditions will also be predominantly rainy. Sleet and snow are expected in various districts, with the possibility of intense and heavy snowfall in certain areas. Fog may be observed in the morning and night hours, while western winds are forecasted to strengthen occasionally in some regions.

Temperature indicators for the regions show 2–6°C of frost at night, and between 2°C of frost and 2°C of heat during the day. In mountainous regions, temperatures will drop to 8–13°C of frost at night, reaching as low as 13–18°C of frost in high-altitude areas. Daytime temperatures in the mountains will range from 3–8°C of frost. Authorities warn that roads in mountainous and foothill areas are likely to freeze, creating icy conditions.

The National Hydrometeorological Service of Azerbaijan regularly monitors atmospheric conditions to provide timely updates for the public and relevant state agencies. Such cold waves in January are characteristic of the region's climate, often requiring increased attention to road safety and energy heating systems during periods of sub-zero temperatures and heavy snowfall.
