Iran and the United States, along with their respective allies, have reached an agreement on a ceasefire, according to an official announcement.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shared the development on his X social media account. "It is with great humility that I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, together with their allies, have agreed to a ceasefire everywhere, including Lebanon and other territories," Sharif stated, adding that the ceasefire agreement must take effect immediately.
The Prime Minister further extended an invitation to both nations to solidify the truce. "I warmly welcome this wise gesture, express my deepest gratitude to the leadership of both countries, and invite their delegations to Islamabad on Friday, April 10, 2026, to conduct further negotiations on a final agreement that will resolve all disputes," he noted. Sharif expressed confidence that the upcoming "Islamabad Talks" would succeed in achieving lasting peace.
This diplomatic breakthrough comes at a critical juncture for regional stability in the Middle East. Under the administration of US President Donald Trump, Washington has been engaged in various high-level diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region. Pakistan has frequently positioned itself as a mediator in conflicts involving Islamic nations and Western powers, leveraging its strategic location and diplomatic ties to facilitate dialogue. The proposed Islamabad Talks represent a significant step in multilateral efforts to secure long-term security and humanitarian relief in conflict-affected zones.
