Residents in the historical part of Sheki are being registered as part of a new census initiative. Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Gulnara Aliyeva, Director of the Sheki State Historical-Architectural Reserve, announced the project during the "Digital Transformation in Cities" event held within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.

"A door-to-door survey has been launched to determine the socio-economic and demographic indicators of the population living in the historical part of Sheki. The process has been underway in the "Yukhari Bash" State Historical-Architectural Reserve since April of this year. The registration work will create an opportunity to better study the real needs and social environment of the residents living in the reserve area," Aliyeva stated. She further noted that a "Community Center" is planned for the reserve to increase local involvement in management and provide a platform for residents to participate in cultural and social projects.

The "Historic Centre of Sheki with the Khan’s Palace" was officially inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2019. The Yukhari Bash State Historical-Architectural Reserve serves as the architectural heart of the city, reflecting its significance as a major hub on the ancient Silk Road. These initiatives in Azerbaijan aim to balance the preservation of historical integrity with the sustainable development of local communities, ensuring that the city's unique heritage is protected for future generations.
