President Ilham Aliyev has signed a decree to provide one-time financial assistance to participants of World War II and their families in Azerbaijan. The initiative is expected to cover approximately 2,000 individuals, including 13 direct participants of the war, in connection with the 81st anniversary of the victory in World War II.
According to information provided by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population to the Operative Information Center-OMM, war participants will receive a lump-sum payment of 2,750 manats. Additionally, 1,500 manats will be provided to widows of fallen soldiers, individuals decorated for selfless labor in the rear, workers of special units performing tasks for the army and navy, and survivors of the siege of Leningrad. The Ministry confirmed that 3 million manats have been allocated from the President's Reserve Fund in the 2026 state budget for these payments, which will be transferred directly to the recipients' bank accounts.
This annual initiative reflects the state policy of Azerbaijan regarding the social protection and care for those who contributed to the victory over fascism. Azerbaijan played a crucial role during World War II, providing the majority of the Soviet Union's oil and fuel supplies, which were vital for the front lines. Thousands of Azerbaijanis demonstrated heroism on the battlefield, and the government continues to honor their legacy through various social security programs and commemorative events held across the country.
