Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has welcomed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, expressing hope that the document will pave the way for a final agreement and strengthen peace in the region.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Pakistan Presidential Press Office announced the development on the X social media platform.

"I welcome the announcement regarding the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, which we hope will lead to a final agreement between the US and Iran and lay the foundation for sustainable and comprehensive peace in the region. Pakistan is proud to have consistently supported dialogue and diplomacy during this complex period," the statement read.

President Zardari emphasized that this step represents a significant contribution to strengthening multilateral cooperation and resolving disputes through engagement and mutual respect. The President expressed optimism that the efforts demonstrated by both parties would contribute to the consolidation of peace, stability, and prosperity, both regionally and globally.

Previously, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed that an agreement had been reached between the US and Iran. According to the Prime Minister, the document is scheduled to be signed on June 19 in Switzerland, with both parties having already agreed to a cessation of military operations.

This diplomatic breakthrough comes amid long-standing tensions between Washington and Tehran, which have historically impacted geopolitical stability in the Middle East and South Asia. Pakistan, maintaining strategic ties with both nations, has frequently positioned itself as a mediator in regional conflicts, advocating for de-escalation and the peaceful resolution of international disputes.
