Azerbaijan has consistently felt the unwavering support of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), a relationship that remains a cornerstone of the nation's foreign policy.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, this sentiment was expressed by President Ilham Aliyev in his address to the participants of the 20th session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States, held in Baku.
The head of state noted that this year marks the 35th anniversary of the Republic of Azerbaijan's membership in the OIC. "The OIC was among the first international organizations that Azerbaijan joined after restoring its independence. We can proudly state that over these years, our country has contributed to strengthening Islamic solidarity, played an initiative-taking and responsible role in the OIC's activities, remained committed to its goals and principles, and actively participated in increasing its prestige on the international stage," President Aliyev stated.
He further emphasized the reciprocal nature of this partnership: "We, in turn, have always felt the consistent support of the OIC. During Armenia's nearly 30-year aggression against Azerbaijan and in the post-war period, the OIC demonstrated a resolute position. It adopted resolutions and statements strongly condemning the occupation, supporting Azerbaijan's just cause, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and welcoming the restoration and reconstruction work in our liberated territories. I would particularly like to highlight the activities of the OIC Contact Group regarding Armenia's aggression against Azerbaijan. We highly value this attitude of our brotherly countries."
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation, established in 1969, serves as the collective voice of the Muslim world. Azerbaijan's active engagement within the OIC has been instrumental in garnering international diplomatic support, particularly regarding the restoration of its territorial integrity and the reconstruction of the Garabagh region following the 44-day Patriotic War in 2020.
