Azerbaijani border guards have successfully intercepted a significant attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotics into the country from Iran.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the State Border Service (SBS), the operation took place within the service area of the "Horadiz" border detachment. During border search and operational measures, authorities prevented the illegal entry of 20 kilograms and 615 grams of marijuana, along with 470 units of the psychotropic drug Methadone M-40, into the territory of Azerbaijan.

Operational and investigative measures regarding the incident are currently ongoing to identify and apprehend those involved in the smuggling attempt.

The State Border Service of Azerbaijan frequently conducts such operations along the southern border, which remains a critical area for monitoring illicit trafficking. These efforts are part of a broader national strategy to combat transnational organized crime and ensure the security of the Republic of Azerbaijan's borders against the illegal flow of narcotics.
