Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is planning to hold urgent telephone discussions with the Iranian leadership and potentially US President Donald Trump before the expiration of a deadline regarding threats to strike critical infrastructure in Iran.

Speaking during a parliamentary session, Takaichi stated that preparations for high-level negotiations are currently underway:
"We will do everything in our power to find a way out of this situation and restore peace," she noted.
The diplomatic initiative comes as US President Donald Trump recently characterized Japan as Washington's premier ally, contrasting the relationship with NATO. The US President criticized the North Atlantic Alliance for failing to provide sufficient support to Washington regarding the security and reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Japan has historically maintained a unique diplomatic position, balancing its crucial security alliance with the United States while sustaining long-standing economic and energy ties with Iran. As a major global economy dependent on energy stability in the Middle East, Tokyo frequently acts as a mediator in regional conflicts to ensure the security of international shipping lanes and global oil markets.
