The Hungarian Embassy in Baku has described the strikes carried out by Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on the territory of Nakhchivan yesterday as an unacceptable violation of security.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the diplomatic mission released this statement via its social media platforms.

"The Hungarian Embassy strongly condemns the attacks on Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Such an unacceptable violation of Azerbaijan's security, sovereignty, and international law undermines regional stability. Hungary stands in solidarity with the Azerbaijan government and its people. We wish those injured a speedy recovery," the diplomatic mission stated.

The drone attacks from Iran to Nakhchivan took place around noon on March 5. One drone struck the terminal building of the Nakhchivan International Airport, while a second fell near a school building in the village of Shekarabad. As a result of the attack on the airport, four civilians sustained injuries. Following the incident, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Demirchilu, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Azerbaijani side has declared that it reserves the right to deliver a retaliatory strike.

The Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is an exclave of the Republic of Azerbaijan, bordering Armenia, Turkey, and Iran. This escalation comes amid heightened regional tensions and underscores the strategic importance of Nakhchivan's security to the overall stability of the South Caucasus. International observers note that attacks on civilian infrastructure, including international airports and educational facilities, constitute a grave breach of international humanitarian norms.
