Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi, held an expanded meeting to discuss strategic cooperation and regional security issues.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) reported the meeting via its official account on X. The ministers focused on strengthening bilateral political dialogue and expanding cooperation in the fields of economy, energy, transport, and humanitarian affairs. Furthermore, the coordination of joint activities within international organizations, including the United Nations and the OSCE, was a key point of discussion.
During the meeting, Jeyhun Bayramov expressed serious concern regarding the drone attacks launched from Iran against Nakhchivan on March 5. It was emphasized that these attacks damaged civilian infrastructure, including an airport and a school, and resulted in injuries to civilians. Minister Bayramov also briefed his Moldovan counterpart on the current status of the normalization and peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The ministers also touched upon the volatile and tense security situation prevailing in the Middle East.
The diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Moldova have seen steady growth since establishing ties in 1992, characterized by mutual support for territorial integrity and sovereignty. This high-level meeting underscores the commitment of both nations to deepen their strategic partnership amid evolving regional challenges. The discussions serve as a platform for aligning positions on international security and fostering economic integration between the South Caucasus and Eastern Europe.
