The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned all European Union (EU) ambassadors currently stationed in the country to lodge a formal protest.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing international media outlets, that the diplomats were called to the ministry to receive a formal condemnation of the EU's recent decision to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.

During the meetings held between ministry officials and the ambassadors, Iranian representatives stated that the EU's decision contradicts international law and the United Nations Charter. Officials emphasized that the move is viewed as an insult to the Iranian people. They further argued that the IRGC plays a vital role in ensuring Iran's national security and claimed that the EU's designation undermines international peace and the principle of the rule of law. This diplomatic escalation follows the European Union's official announcement to include the IRGC on its list of sanctioned terrorist entities.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is a multi-branch primary arm of Iran's Armed Forces, established after the 1979 Revolution. It holds significant influence over Iran's political and economic landscape, as well as its regional military strategy. The decision by the EU to designate the group as a terrorist entity follows similar moves by the United States and other Western allies, reflecting deepening geopolitical tensions between Tehran and the West over regional security, human rights, and nuclear proliferation concerns.
