All ambassadors of European Union member states operating in Tehran have been summoned to the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The announcement was made by Esmaeil Baghaei, the spokesperson for the Iranian MFA, during a press briefing.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, Baghaei stated that summoning the ambassadors is the minimum response from Tehran following the EU's decision to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. He noted that additional measures are not ruled out in this direction.
The Iranian MFA official emphasized that official Tehran is considering several retaliatory options. "We are evaluating various response steps, and a number of options have been prepared and submitted to decision-making bodies. We believe that a final decision regarding an adequate reaction to the European Union's illegal and erroneous decision will be made in the coming days," Baghaei added.
The move comes after the European Union officially recognized the IRGC as a terrorist entity earlier this week, a decision that has significantly escalated tensions between Tehran and Brussels. The IRGC is a major branch of the Iranian Armed Forces, and its designation by international bodies often leads to severe diplomatic friction and reciprocal sanctions. This development follows years of deteriorating relations over regional security, nuclear concerns, and human rights issues.
