Pakistan has strongly condemned the drone attack targeting the Barakah nuclear power plant located in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an official statement regarding the incident. The ministry emphasized that the deliberate targeting of nuclear facilities is considered a serious violation of international law and established nuclear safety principles.
“Nuclear installations should not be targeted under any circumstances,” the Pakistani MFA stated, highlighting the potential risks such actions pose to regional safety. Official Islamabad further declared its full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates in this matter, reaffirming its support for the preservation of stability and security across the region.
The Barakah nuclear power plant, located in the Al Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi, is the first commercial nuclear power station in the Arab world. It plays a critical role in the UAE's energy transition and climate goals, providing a significant portion of the country's electricity. International protocols, including those overseen by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), strictly prohibit armed attacks against civil nuclear facilities due to the catastrophic environmental and humanitarian risks associated with potential radiation leaks.
