A new round of direct dialogue between Iran and the United States is expected to take place in the near future, with recent diplomatic contacts promising hopeful results. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing The Express Tribune, this was announced by Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Asif.

"An extremely positive dynamics is being recorded," the publication quoted the head of the defense department as saying. Khawaja Asif noted that current diplomatic efforts are developing in a "constructive vein." Earlier reports suggested that the next direct meeting between representatives of Washington and Tehran could be organized on April 16 in Islamabad. According to the Associated Press, the parties are discussing the possibility of repeat negotiations in the Pakistani capital. However, representatives of the administration of US President Donald Trump indicate Geneva as one of the likely options for the venue of the new round of consultations.

The diplomatic push comes amid a period of heightened regional volatility. On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a joint operation against Iran, to which Tehran responded by launching missiles at Israeli territory. Furthermore, Iranian forces targeted US military bases located in Persian Gulf countries. Due to the situation in the Middle East, several regional countries temporarily closed their airspace. During these events, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed as a result of the US and Israeli strikes. Previous mediation efforts held in Islamabad on April 11-12 concluded without reaching a final agreement between Washington and Tehran.

Pakistan has historically played a significant role as a diplomatic bridge between Western powers and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Given its strategic location and bilateral ties with both nations, Islamabad often serves as a neutral ground for de-escalation efforts. The involvement of the administration of US President Donald Trump in these potential talks underscores a critical phase in international relations, as global powers seek to stabilize the energy-rich Gulf region and prevent further military escalation.
