On August 23, a ceremony for the signing and exchange of documents between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan took place in Tashkent, with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, President Ilham Aliyev and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the "Treaty on Eternal Friendship between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan" and the "Decision of the third meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan."
Several other agreements were exchanged by officials from both nations, covering diverse sectors including customs, tourism, culture, and economic development. Notably, a program to increase trade turnover between the two countries to 1 billion US dollars by 2030, along with a practical action plan for investment and trade projects, were exchanged by Azerbaijan's Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov and Uzbekistan's Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov.
Furthermore, a series of protocols establishing sister-city relations were exchanged by Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and his Uzbek counterpart, Bakhtiyor Saidov. These include protocols between Khankendi and Urgench, Nakhchivan and Urgench, and Lachin and Bukhara, marking a significant step in deepening regional ties.
This high-level meeting underscores the growing strategic partnership between Baku and Tashkent. Such agreements are part of a broader trend of strengthening bilateral relations within the Turkic world, focusing on economic integration, cultural exchange, and the reconstruction of liberated territories in Azerbaijan, such as Khankendi and Lachin.
