The next group of former internally displaced persons (IDPs) has arrived in the Girmizi Bazar settlement of the Khojavand district. As part of the ongoing relocation process, 17 families consisting of 74 people were settled in their new homes, marking another step in the restoration of permanent residency in the region.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that a ceremony was held to present the keys to the new residents. The event was attended by officials from the Special Representation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavand districts, alongside representatives from the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons. The relocated families had previously been living in temporary accommodations, including dormitories, sanatoriums, and administrative buildings across various parts of Azerbaijan.
The relocation is part of the "Great Return" state program, which aims to facilitate the safe and dignified return of Azerbaijani citizens to territories liberated from occupation. Following the 2020 Patriotic War and subsequent local anti-terror measures, the government of Azerbaijan has launched large-scale infrastructure projects and residential construction in the Garabagh and East Zangezur regions. These efforts ensure that returning residents are provided with modern housing, employment opportunities, and access to essential social services in their native lands.
