The body of 12-year-old Nijat Yalchin oglu Sharifzade, who drowned in the Garabagh irrigation canal in the city of Mingachevir on August 4, has been recovered.
This information was provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES).
According to the ministry, the body was located and retrieved from the water by divers from the State Service for Control over Small Vessels and Water Rescue. The remains have since been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further procedures.
The Garabagh canal is a critical piece of water infrastructure in Azerbaijan, serving as a primary source for agricultural irrigation in the region. The Ministry of Emergency Situations frequently conducts water safety awareness campaigns during the summer months, urging citizens to exercise caution near canals and reservoirs, where strong currents and deep waters can pose significant hazards to swimmers.
