Azerbaijan's embassies and consulates general in the Middle East have transitioned to an enhanced security regime due to the ongoing crisis in the region.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Ayhan Hajizada, Head of the Press Service Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), announced this during a statement regarding the recent military escalation in the region.
The diplomatic missions are responding promptly to inquiries from citizens. According to the spokesperson, only one Azerbaijani citizen has been injured so far. The individual is receiving necessary support and is reported to be in stable condition.
Regarding the evacuation of citizens, those currently in Iran are utilizing land borders with Azerbaijan and Türkiye to exit the area. To date, 30 citizens have successfully crossed into Azerbaijan. Ayhan Hajizada noted that mass evacuation is not currently planned due to the closure of regional airspace. Citizens in the region are urged to monitor security developments, follow the instructions of local authorities, and avoid mass gathering areas.
The current instability in the Middle East has prompted several nations to bolster their diplomatic security and prepare contingency plans for their nationals. For Azerbaijan, ensuring the safety of its citizens abroad remains a top priority of its foreign policy. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to coordinate with regional partners to maintain safe passage routes and provide consular assistance as the situation evolves.
