The average monthly temperature in Azerbaijan during March is expected to be close to the climate norm, with some regions experiencing slightly higher than average temperatures, according to the latest forecast.

The National Hydrometeorological Service provided this information to the Operative Information Center-OMM. According to the general outlook, monthly precipitation levels are predicted to be mostly within the seasonal norm, though some areas may see slightly higher rainfall totals.

Weather in Baku and Absheron: Rising temperatures

In Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, the average monthly temperature is expected to range between 6-9°C, which is near or slightly above the climate norm. While nighttime temperatures will generally hover between 4-9°C, occasional drops to 3°C frost are possible. During the day, the weather will warm significantly, with temperatures reaching 8-13°C and potentially hitting 20-25°C on certain days. Monthly precipitation is expected to stay within the norm of 20-27 mm.

Nakhchivan MR: Sharp temperature fluctuations

In Nakhchivan, Culfa, Ordubad, Sadarak, Shahbuz, and Sharur, the average monthly temperature is forecasted at 7-10°C. Nighttime temperatures may fluctuate between 2-7°C and 2-7°C frost. Daytime highs are expected to reach up to 19-24°C, with precipitation remaining within the 22-44 mm norm.

Central Aran: Temperatures to reach 28°C

Central regions, including Yevlax, Mingachevir, Kurdamir, Sabirabad, and Shirvan, will experience a warm March. Although the average temperature is 8-11°C, thermometers are expected to reach 23-28°C on several days. Nighttime temperatures will stay between 5-10°C, with occasional dips to 0-5°C frost.

March marks the beginning of the astronomical spring in Azerbaijan, a period characterized by the transition from winter's unstable weather to more consistent warming. Historically, the month is known for its rapid shifts in atmospheric pressure and temperature, often referred to locally as the arrival of the "Novruz" season, which celebrates the vernal equinox and the awakening of nature.
