Mariya Zaxarova: Paşinyanın partiyası səs itkisi ilə üzləşib

Armenia's parliamentary elections have taken place against a backdrop of what has been described as "unprecedented pressure" on the opposition and interference from Western nations, particularly the European Union.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that this assessment was provided by Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a commentary published on the ministry's official website.

According to Zakharova, preliminary results indicate that the "Civil Contract" party, led by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, has failed to secure an absolute majority in parliament. She noted that compared to previous elections, support for the ruling party has declined, signaling a shift in the country's political landscape.

The Russian Foreign Ministry official emphasized that Moscow remains interested in a strong and sovereign Armenia. She further argued that the election results highlight significant polarization within Armenian society, warning that if the interests of all social groups are not adequately addressed, there is a risk of deepening divisions within the country.

Armenia's political environment has been increasingly complex in recent years, particularly following the 2020 Patriotic War and the subsequent restoration of Azerbaijan's sovereignty over its Garabagh region. The country is currently navigating a delicate balance between its traditional security ties with Russia and growing diplomatic overtures toward Western institutions, a dynamic that continues to influence its domestic political stability and electoral outcomes.
