The Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip is set to resume operations in both directions starting next week.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that this was announced by Ali Shaat, a Palestinian politician and head of the Gaza Management Committee.
In a video address to participants at the founding ceremony of the Peace Council held in Davos, the official emphasized the critical importance of reopening the crossing for the region:
blockquote>"The crossing will be open for both entry and exit. Rafah is the only vital artery connecting the residents of Gaza with the outside world. It has been confirmed that the opening will take place next week."
The Rafah crossing is considered the most important strategic point in the region for the delivery of humanitarian aid and the movement of residents. As the primary gateway not controlled by Israel, its operational status directly impacts the humanitarian situation and the flow of essential supplies into the coastal enclave.
The announcement comes amid ongoing international discussions regarding regional stability and humanitarian access. Historically, the Rafah crossing has served as a focal point for diplomatic negotiations involving regional powers and international organizations seeking to facilitate the movement of people and goods while maintaining security protocols along the Egyptian-Gaza border.
