President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with US President Donald Trump in Davos on January 22. During the meeting, both leaders expressed satisfaction with the development of relations across various sectors following US President Donald Trump's return to office.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the parties emphasized the historic role of US President Donald Trump in reaching agreements on August 8 last year in Washington to advance the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia. President Ilham Aliyev touched upon the steps taken toward the normalization of relations, noting that peace already exists in the region. The head of state highlighted that this stability is reflected in the establishment of trade relations, specifically mentioning the export of petroleum products from Azerbaijan to Armenia and the transit of imported grain to Armenia through Azerbaijani territory.
President Ilham Aliyev further noted the significant role of the Zangezur corridor and the TRIPP project in enhancing regional connectivity. The discussion also covered the importance of the Peace Council, established under the chairmanship of the US President. The sides noted the council's significance in strengthening peace in the Middle East and contributing to the resolution of global conflicts. Azerbaijan's invitation to join the Peace Council as a founding member was hailed as a testament to the Azerbaijan-US strategic partnership and the country's role in promoting global peace. The heads of state exchanged views on the prospects of bilateral ties, emphasizing the role of high-level mutual visits in deepening cooperation.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. The forum serves as a premier global platform for world leaders, business executives, and policymakers to discuss pressing international issues, including economic stability and regional security. Azerbaijan has traditionally maintained a strong presence at the forum to promote its strategic energy and transport initiatives, such as the Middle Corridor, which links Europe and Asia through the South Caucasus.
