Azerbaijan remains committed to establishing sustainable peace in the South Caucasus while preserving the memory of the Garabagh war tragedies. Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, made these remarks while addressing the diplomatic corps at Garabagh University.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, Hajiyev noted that for 30 years, Garabagh was associated with conflict and bloodshed. "While preserving the memory of past tragedies, including the Khojaly genocide, we look toward a peaceful future for Azerbaijan and the South Caucasus as a whole," he stated. The Presidential Assistant emphasized that Azerbaijan has always prioritized good neighborly relations in its foreign policy, a goal previously hindered by the long-standing conflict. "Today, I can say that Azerbaijan has established friendly and good neighborly relations with all its neighbors, including Armenia," Hajiyev added, noting that the government demonstrated "diplomatic courage" by extending a hand of peace to Yerevan.
The speech takes place against the backdrop of ongoing normalization efforts in the region following the restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity. Garabagh University, located in Khankendi, serves as a symbol of the region's rapid reintegration and educational development. Azerbaijan has consistently advocated for a peace treaty based on the principles of international law, including the mutual recognition of sovereignty and the inviolability of internationally recognized borders, aiming to transform the South Caucasus into a zone of cooperation and stability.
