Ottawa welcomes the significant progress achieved in the peace process between Baku and Yerevan, emphasizing the importance of regional stability in the South Caucasus.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney made these remarks during his speech at the European Political Community (EPC) summit held in Yerevan today. The Prime Minister expressed his support for the ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at finalizing a sustainable peace agreement between the two nations.
"I join those who have noted the progress made in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and I welcome the participation of President Ilham Aliyev," Carney stated. He further emphasized Canada's commitment to supporting international frameworks that facilitate dialogue and security in the region.
Carney highlighted the importance of Canada's engagement within the EPC format and expressed his gratitude to the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, for the invitation to the summit in Yerevan. Notably, this marks the first time a Canadian Prime Minister has participated in a summit of the European Political Community.
The European Political Community is an intergovernmental forum for political and strategic discussions about the future of Europe, established in 2022 following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The platform brings together leaders from across the continent and partner nations to foster cooperation on issues of common interest, including energy, transport, and regional security. Azerbaijan has been an active participant in the EPC summits, utilizing the platform to advance its regional integration and peace agenda.
