The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are expanding ground operations against the military infrastructure of the radical Hezbollah group located in southern Lebanon.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing the military's press service, that these activities are aimed at strengthening defensive positions on the front line. According to official data, the Israeli army has killed more than 100 members of the group in Lebanon's southern region. As part of the operations, dozens of Hezbollah infrastructure facilities were neutralized, and hundreds of various types of weapons were discovered.
The current escalation follows a period of intense regional conflict. On February 28, US President Donald Trump and Israel initiated military operations against Iran, resulting in the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several high-ranking officials. Subsequently, Iran launched strikes against targets in Israel, as well as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Iraq, and Cyprus, where US and allied military bases are located. On April 8, a two-week ceasefire agreement was reached between Iran, the US, and their allies.
After Hezbollah entered the conflict on Iran's side by targeting Israel with missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the Israeli army began conducting strikes on southern Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut. These operations continue as Israel seeks to dismantle the radical group's operational capabilities near its northern border. The expansion of the ground incursion marks a significant phase in Israel's efforts to ensure the security of its northern territories and prevent cross-border attacks.
