The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued a warning stating it could target United States military bases located in the southern Persian Gulf amid ongoing tensions regarding the potential blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, IRGC spokesperson Ibrahim Zulfiqari made the statement regarding the readiness of Iranian forces. "All US military bases in the southern Persian Gulf will be neutralized in the near future," Zulfiqari stated, signaling a significant escalation in regional rhetoric.
The announcement follows a drone attack carried out on May 17 in the United Arab Emirates. Reports indicate that one of the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) struck an electricity generator near the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the Al-Dhafra region, resulting in a fire. While the extent of the damage was localized, the incident has significantly heightened security concerns across the Middle East.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints, through which approximately one-fifth of the world's total oil consumption passes daily. Tensions in the region often impact global energy markets and maritime security. US President Donald Trump has previously emphasized the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation in these international waters, while Azerbaijan continues to monitor regional stability closely as a key energy producer and advocate for international security protocols.
