Abdolnaser Hemmati, the head of the Central Bank of Iran, has formally responded to claims made by US President Donald Trump regarding the alleged collapse of the Iranian economy and the depletion of the country's foreign currency reserves.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing international media reports, Hemmati addressed the impact of extensive US sanctions and economic pressures currently facing Tehran.

Hemmati emphasized that the country is actively working to meet foreign currency demand, satisfy the daily needs of the population, and secure essential resources for factories and manufacturing enterprises. He stated that the process of collecting foreign currency revenues and securing imports continues, noting that the country maintains sufficient internal reserves. Furthermore, he indicated the existence of additional, undisclosed financial sources.

"Iran has currency, and it has enough of it," Hemmati asserted, categorically rejecting claims that the Iranian economy is in a state of collapse. He noted that while adversaries continue to impose new sanctions weekly, the economic system remains operational.

The Central Bank chief announced plans to inject up to $2 billion into the market to stabilize the currency. He attributed recent exchange rate volatility more to psychological factors than to underlying economic realities, expressing confidence that the market fluctuations would subside. Additionally, Hemmati acknowledged that while conflict and damage to certain infrastructure have contributed to unemployment, the government is prioritizing the financing of small and medium-sized enterprises to mitigate these effects.

The ongoing economic tension between Washington and Tehran remains a focal point of global geopolitics. The US has maintained a "maximum pressure" campaign through sanctions, while Iranian officials consistently argue that their domestic economic policies are designed to withstand these external pressures and ensure national stability.
