Iran has announced that Iranian students and faculty members expelled from United States universities will be admitted to educational institutions within the country.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the SNN television channel, the statement was made by Iran's Minister of Science, Research, and Technology, Hossein Simaei Saraf.
"Taking into account that the US authorities have expelled some of our students in violation of legal and ethical norms, I declare that all those expelled from American universities will be welcomed into equivalent educational institutions in Iran," the Minister stated. He further urged students and teachers not to be concerned regarding the loss of their previous educational and professional positions.
The move comes amid a complex geopolitical backdrop. On February 28, the US and Israel initiated military operations against Iran, with Tehran and several major cities coming under fire. In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced large-scale operations, reportedly targeting several US military facilities in the region. On April 7, US President Donald Trump announced a two-week mutual ceasefire with Iran, followed by several rounds of negotiations between Iranian and US officials in Islamabad on April 11.
This initiative by the Iranian Ministry of Science reflects the ongoing diplomatic and social tensions between Tehran and Washington. Historically, educational exchanges have been a significant point of contact between the two nations, but recent military escalations and subsequent political shifts under the administration of US President Donald Trump have led to increased scrutiny and administrative actions against Iranian nationals studying abroad.
