President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation on March 20 to discuss bilateral relations and regional security.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Presidential Press Service reported that President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif exchanged congratulations on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, wishing prosperity and continued success to the peoples of both nations.
During the conversation, the leaders expressed satisfaction with the development of friendly and brotherly relations between Azerbaijan and Pakistan. They exchanged views on the prospects for further cooperation and future high-level contacts. The sides also addressed the current situation in the Middle East, emphasizing the urgent need for a political resolution to ongoing tensions in the region.
Azerbaijan and Pakistan maintain a strategic partnership characterized by strong defense, economic, and political ties. Pakistan was one of the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan's independence in 1991 and has consistently supported Azerbaijan's territorial integrity on the international stage. The two nations frequently collaborate within international organizations, including the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), to promote regional stability and economic integration.
