Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestlers Qurban Qurbanov and Hasrat Jafarov have secured gold medals at the European Championships held in Tirana, Albania. Competing in the 82 kg weight category, Qurbanov defeated Adlet Tyulbayev (UWW) with a score of 4:2 in the final match to claim the top spot on the podium.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Hasrat Jafarov also triumphed in the 67 kg weight class by defeating Turkey's Murat Firat 7:5. This victory marks Jafarov's fourth consecutive European title. The Azerbaijani team concluded the day's competition with a total of two gold and one bronze medals.
The European Wrestling Championships, which are scheduled to conclude on April 26, have seen a strong performance from the Azerbaijani delegation. In addition to the latest gold medals, Greco-Roman wrestlers Rashad Mammadov (55 kg), Nihat Mammadli (60 kg), and Islam Abbasov (87 kg) have previously earned bronze medals for the national team. Azerbaijan maintains a long-standing tradition of excellence in wrestling, consistently ranking among the top nations in international competitions, reflecting the country's significant investment in sports development and athlete training.
