"Google" işçiləri Pentaqonla əməkdaşlığın dayandırılmasını tələb edir

More than 600 employees at Google, specializing in artificial intelligence systems, have submitted a formal letter to Alphabet Inc. CEO Sundar Pichai demanding the company cease its cooperation with the U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) on military projects.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing international media reports, the staff members expressed deep concerns regarding the potential misuse of AI technology in warfare and surveillance. The letter highlights the inherent risks of AI systems making critical errors and emphasizes the employees' responsibility to prevent unethical and dangerous applications of the technology.

“We ask you to refuse to make our AI systems available for classified projects. We want to see AI being beneficial to humanity, not used in an inhumane or extremely harmful manner,” the letter stated, specifically pointing to lethal autonomous weapons and mass surveillance as primary threats. The employees further warned that failing to reject such partnerships could cause irreversible damage to Google's reputation, global role, and business interests.

This development comes amid a long-standing debate within the tech industry regarding the ethical boundaries of Silicon Valley's involvement in national security. Google previously faced significant internal backlash in 2018 over Project Maven, a Pentagon initiative using AI to analyze drone footage, which eventually led the company to establish a set of AI Principles. As the U.S. government, under the administration of US President Donald Trump, continues to prioritize technological superiority in defense, the tension between tech workers' ethical standards and corporate military contracts remains a significant challenge for major technology firms.
