Major General Abbasali Novruzov, the former commander of the Border Troops of Azerbaijan, has passed away at the age of 89.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Novruzov died this morning. The military official is scheduled to be laid to rest tomorrow at the Military Memorial Cemetery in Baku.
Abbasali Ramazan oglu Novruzov was born in 1937 in Baku. He served for many years in the Border Troops of the USSR. Following the return of National Leader Heydar Aliyev to power, Novruzov was appointed Deputy Minister of National Security and Commander of the Border Troops on April 8, 1994. He held this significant position until 2001, playing a pivotal role in the formation and strengthening of Azerbaijan's border security infrastructure during the early years of the country's restored independence.
