Authorities in the southeastern French city of Orange have launched a criminal investigation after police discovered the remains of five infants inside a residential apartment. The grim discovery was made during a search of the property, where the remains were found concealed within cardboard boxes.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing international media, that the incident came to light after a 32-year-old woman gave birth to a healthy child on Sunday and was subsequently hospitalized.
The woman’s 32-year-old partner, who resides with her, stated that he had been unaware of the pregnancy until recently. Upon discovering items resembling human remains during a search of the home, he alerted medical staff, prompting an immediate investigation by law enforcement agencies.
According to preliminary findings from forensic experts, the remains are believed to belong to five newborns, though definitive confirmation is pending a full autopsy. The couple reportedly has two other children, aged 8 and 9. Police have not yet been able to question the mother, and the investigation into the case, which is being treated as a potential homicide, remains ongoing.
