Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has welcomed the temporary ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, aimed at de-escalating tensions in the region.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Turkish leader issued a statement regarding the development on his official X social media account.
"We welcome the ceasefire announced last night in the war that has turned our region into a field of fire since February 28. We hope for the full implementation of the ceasefire without allowing opportunities for possible provocations and sabotage. We sincerely congratulate all parties who contributed to the process of achieving the ceasefire, especially our friend and brother Pakistan," Erdogan stated. He further emphasized his wish for the region to achieve peace as soon as possible and stressed that Turkey will continue to raise the voice of peace globally.
The conflict began on February 28 when the United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran, resulting in the deaths of several high-ranking officials, including Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In response, Iran conducted strikes against Israel and military bases belonging to US President Donald Trump's administration and its allies located in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Iraq, and Cyprus. Following the intense escalation, Iran and the United States and its allies reached an agreement on April 8 for a two-week ceasefire.
This diplomatic breakthrough comes at a critical time for regional stability. Turkey, maintaining its strategic position as a mediator in the Middle East, has consistently advocated for diplomatic solutions to prevent the further spread of conflict. The involvement of Pakistan as a mediator highlights the multi-lateral efforts required to manage the complex security architecture of the region and ensure the protection of international energy corridors and trade routes passing through the Middle East.
