As part of ongoing counter-terrorism and operational-search measures conducted by the State Security Service (SSS), Namig Rashid oglu Aghalarov, who had been on the international wanted list since 2009, has been apprehended and extradited to Azerbaijan to face investigation.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Namig Aghalarov is accused of participating in the organization of armed ambushes against personnel of the UN-mandated International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and other countries between 2008 and 2009. He is specifically charged with involvement in the use of remote explosive devices and orchestrating armed attacks against representatives of international organizations, citizens of various countries performing international missions, and logistics networks.
Over the past 17 years, Aghalarov had been evading justice by hiding in various countries under different aliases. Reports also indicate that he was engaged in jihadist activities and the dissemination of radical religious propaganda during his time abroad. The extradition marks a significant step in Azerbaijan's ongoing efforts to combat international terrorism and ensure that individuals accused of serious crimes are held accountable under the law.
